Expressing yourself when communicating with someone can be one of the hardest thing. Some people have the fear to express themselves because they are afraid to loose their friendship or being judged. There are many times when we said thing that did not come out the right way because we were too angry and could not control what we say.
It is important to learn to know how to express yourself in a healthy way. Here are four ways in which you can express yourself.
LISTEN TO YOURSELF AND ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR EMOTIONS – Listen to yourself, how you want to react to a situation so that you will be able to communicate your feelings in a honest way. Do not let you emotions control you, people usually hide away their emotion but there are times when they need to be expressed to free you from the situation you are facing, for example when grieving.
WRITE A JOURNAL – When going through a sad phase write down how you are feeling, how you react to things. Connect with your emotions and feeling not your thoughts in that way it helps release the energy. Write how you want to react to situation, when expressing your emotions on your journal try as much as possible to do it safely. Do not write down things that will hurt you or other people in the long run or get you in trouble.
EXPRESS YOURSELF VERBALLY – Let your voice be heard, speak out. Don’t be aggressive.
EXPRESS YOURSELF IN A CREATIVE WAY – There are other ways in which you enjoy when you express yourself. It can be through;
- Drawing – get a sketch book and draw something you like, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Remember you are expressing yourself.
- Dancing – this can help let go of your inner feelings and your desires. When feeling low put on on some music, dance to the song to express you feeling. Dancing helps change your mood from sad to happy. You can also try some dancing lessons and learn new type of dance to different genres.
- Singing – You do not have to be like Beyonce or Rihanna to sing, we all can sing even if we are not good at it. Sing songs that connect to your emotions, sing in the shower, car, cooking anywhere. Be yourself when singing and sing songs that resonate you.
